Yeah, so I made one of these. This is nothing in itself, but I'm pretty proud of the sleeves--notice that the garter stitch runs lengthwise, not crosswise:

I started by casting on 5 stitches (1 inch). Then I increased 5 stitches at the end of every second row, simultaneously increasing 1 stitch at the other end every eighth row to make a slightly curved sleeve cap. Once all the increases were done, I knit even until it measured 4.25" at the cuff edge, then 2.5" box stitch, then reverse the whole thing and decrease down to 5 stitches. I made them to fit the schematic for the medium size, but intentionally made the sleeves wider at the cuff edge.

Other stuff: Araucania Nature Wool from Elann in color 12, six full skeins plus a little extra for the single-crochet edges. Soft enough to wear next to the skin, surprisingly, and I haven't even washed it yet. As you may notice, the sleeves (which do match the back) are a different color from the front--despite being from the same dyelot. *shrug*

The neckline was uber-stretchy and threatened to slide off my shoulders until I added the crochet edging, doing one stitch for every four rows along the neck edge to hold it in a bit, and two for every five along the bottom. (Sounds weird, but it is garter stitch).

All in all I'm pleased, but it really could have been longer. I don't like it when my stomach peeks out and gets cold because my sweater's too short. Not the pattern's fault, though, as I'm kind of tall.

That's lovely! I really like the contrasting colour between the sleeves and main body, actually (I love earth tones). It gives it a bit flair.

Nice work! I, too, like the colors you used, whether or not it was supposed to be one color.

Very nice. The color variation adds that extra something.

I like your version much better than the original! I think it's the sleeves; on the original, they looked too bulky. ^__^

Very lovely. I'm actually working on Sonnet now. Hopefully mine turns out as fine as yours.

Ooooh yours is so much prettier than the original! Now I must go check out that yarn. Sigh. Like I need more yarn!

Well, the nice thing about this pattern is that it's easy to adapt; you could easily make it longer if you make another one.

You could also pick up and knit some ribbing around the bottom if you wanted, to make it longer. It looks really, really cute on you, though!

i love it! i'm working on a Sonnet right now also, and i hope mine turns out that nicely. mine is in plum purple Cotton Fleece. i was also thinking about doing the sleeves lengthwise, because it seems like they would be overly saggy the other way. we'll see.

i'm probably going to edge mine with a band of garter stitch in a different color.

I must agree that I like the your sonnet much better than the pattern original, in terms of fit, the change in the sleeves, and the color choice. I just ordered a bunch of alpaca from Elann, and I think I will design a pullover version of your sonnet (I don't like having front buttons).

Can I ask how you figured out how much yarn to order? I'm thinking of ordering the yarn from Elann as well but can't figure out how much to get.

I looked at the version of Sonnet in size large using Araucania Nature Wool, which has a close-enough guage, calculated the complete yardage, then figured out how many balls of the alpaca I needed, plus a ball or 2 extra in case of mistakes, etc.

At those prices, it's okay to get extra...you'll have a little bit to make a nice alpaca something for someone.

So true! I found something in my stash that I could use but I think I'll order the alpaca anyway. I was going to get enough to do a different sweater if it didn't work out for the Sonnet...just in case. :)

I also think it's awesome! I actually didn't like the original pattern but having seen yours now I'm rethinking it. . .and I probably even have yarn for it. ;o) Congratulations! Oh, and that yarn does soften up after washing, on my scarf I did the shampoo/conditioner thing and it really helped.
